1. my favorite discovery on this journey would have to be the capability of posting
the embedded players on the blog. The next favorite is to incorporate and
customized rollyo.com's mini search engine that i rolled for anime downloads.
2. This program is good for introducing me into knowing and applying a few web based
applications on my blog. It shows that there are discoveries on the internet that i have
not known before. It teaches me the discipline of following deadlines and instructions
given. And as a result, there are rewards for me like getting usb cruzers drives or
portable mp3 player. It's almost like getting a day's off: learning something and getting rewards
while working. i hope my work-life will be like these moments from now on.
3. i thought i was perfect and didn't missed any parts on the 23 things. but it's a good thing
that i asked the virtual team to help me recheck my assignment in order to make sure that i
make it through and receive credits. Along with a few encouraging words from 'quehondas' and
the team. Thanks again for extending the deadline to April 2nd.
These are the only surprises that i have so far.
4. I think the program is as good as it gets; like they say, there's always going to be some
margin of errors in a program. but just to kick it up a notch, i think it's better next time to
explore other sites on the web before we zone it into what we been exposed to so far. personally,
i don't know any other applications or web sites out there now. But i hope to participate again in
the future.

week 6: Technorati (missed topic)
i missed technorati as one of my assignment.
so i'm posting this on march 29 as an addition to week 6.
there are several differences that i see under keyword learning 2.0
in blog posts, tags, and blog directory categories.
Blog directory has links to the blog categories on technorati.com
it also have an option for me if i want to add a certain blog post to my favorites.
it has tags related to learning 2.o in a blog post.
it has links to other blog postings that are linked through keyword 'learning 2.0'
our picts can also be display in this area of technorati.
in the tags' search on learning 2.0, there are videos and picts posted by bloggers; it also have blog links, and html leading directly to the person's blog.
the blogs' search category leads me to the blog posters' opening statement of thier blogs. There were no html links here though. Links to other bloggers is shown.
In this area of technorati, i can also access postings of the blogger for technorati.com as well as the original postings on blogger.com
here we can claim the postings for technorati's customers; provided we sign up for technorati as a member.
SO . . . those are the differences that i noticed so far in the three searched areas
with keywords 'learning 2.0'
here i found a video about 2 otters holding hands!
technorati.com is better than del.ici.ous for sure.
what's neat about technorati too is that there's a rss feed symbol visibly display at the url search bar for me. Blogger.com has this feature also.
I ' m using opera search engine though. i don't know whether internet explorer display rss on thier url or not.

week 9: audio ebooks
spoken ebooks are much less available than ebooks for sjpl.
i browsed through 'psychology' as the subject under audio ebooks for sjpl
customers, and found around ten.
The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference
is having 2 people ahead of me on the waiting list.
There were no records found for spoken ebook under the subject of psychology
at sjsu though!

week 9: eBooks
i explored www.gutenberg.org and world EBook Fair's site,
couldn't find anything free there.
now for the sjlibrary ebook site, there are those ebooks
that are exclusively available for sjsu students and staff.
but under the subject of psychology, i went into netLibrary, found plenty
one of the ebook from there is
feeling good for no good reason, i logged into my sjpl account and read some.
i guess from there i can email the book or copy & paste the text.
However, under the subject of physiological psychology, there were none in netLibrary

week 9: Podcasts
this podcast is from podcasts.yahoo.com
it is about video game consoles discussion
using mp3 files (audio), which can be play on almost all
players on the PC.
i listened to the library mp3 file of Gordon's WorldCat
cataloging. It informs that their website as a useful tool for referencing and researching purposes.
the Sunnyvale Public Library podcasts offer a site feed of their place.
so i thought it would be nice to put it to my blog.
the title of the podcast that i listened to is Library of the Future
so what did i learned or found that's interesting?
a few things: first of all the tech podcasts about game consoles gives me a headache
because there were 3 or 4 people talking nonstop one after another.
it was kinda hard to follow. maybe it's kinda fun for others.
i guess i have to be a fanatic or it's required of me to listened to podcasts
or else i prefer YouTube.com video sharing better.

week 9: YouTube.com
here's a video from YouTube.com that i've chosen.
i thought it was neat because it's something that i don't see everyday:
dog walking on treadmill.
it's an advertisement on dog training.
if i have a dog, i would let it run on the treadmill too. There will be times when i don't
want to run outside.
of course, just like the 23 things web posts said: there are videos that is wasting time if i watch them
but there are other ones that are entertaining as well as informative like
lucy on treadmill.
of course, this video should be noncommercial.
perhaps YouTube.com should extend their video postings to a limited educational, outreach and commercialized video postings. And perhaps, live personnels who could chat to help the community.
Such usage can promote learning and better serve the community in healthy ways.
Let's say that i am a high school student feeling depressed, i can logged into YouTube.com
and search the category of counseling and chat about my situations to the mentors or counselors for YouTube.com

week 8 continued: LibraryThing
i 've created an account with LibraryThing
under the username of asn26.
it gave me the html and xml (feeds)
codes to upload to this blog.
and here's a brief reviews of my favorite reading books:
fictions and non fictions on the right. below
is the list of non fictions that i liked:
love is never enough
never good enough
feeling good
the fictions' collection is
clan of the cave bears
shelters of stone
the complete collection of calvin and hobbes
below is the direct html to the reviews:
http://www.librarything.com/rsshtml/otherreviews/asn26
surprisingly to me, non of the non fictions are reviewed by anyone
on the LibraryThing site?
The Clan of the Cave Bears is the most popular of my collection
the least popular is : Never Good Enough |o|
none of my collection made it to the top 25 or the top 25 reviewed
One of the fun statistics listed is that 3 of my collections' original language is english

learning 2.0 week 8 zoho

hello everyone, i am writing something here. i've created an account with zoho on march 22 2007.
asn26
i don't know if this is the proof that i used zoho writer not.
so i captured the writings with the zoho writer and put its feed here.
one neat feature that i like about the zoho writer is its ability to publish what i wrote to my blogger.com account.
zoho writer can transform my writing document to pdf, word, html and other rich text formats.
i can also email my document.
it's like an upgraded word processor combined with email and blogging features plus site feeding.

week 7: Wiki
wikis are good for postings info for interested users and is easy to edit.
doesn't need much info to create an account for editing wikis.
name, user name and password is all needed.
upgrades can be purchased for advanced options as more spaces to post.
wikis, undoubtedly, can be prone to vandals trying to confuse its members,
but i think wikis are like post-it notes for any organizations including the library.
having wikis can be one of the first steps to build a community.
the plcmc wiki web site just let me edit their wiki
i input my favorite tv shows: with the asn26 signature.
one proof so far, i couldn't create an account with my name and user password?
all i can do is edit the wiki with the password they given me: plcmc
i am trying to import the rss feed of the wiki into my blog . . .
i done it ! 5 plcmc learning 2.0 feeds at a time is in the asn26 blog.
now my next assignment is to add my blog to the plcmc favorite blogs
i finished this task. i found out that i don't need to use brackets [] on my blogspot.com account
the link is automatically created w/o brackets. all i need to do is click on the highlited link to

week 6 (continued . . .) : thoughts on library 2.0
To me, Library 2.0 is a starting point for the future of libraries.
on one of the posts, i think is from the librarian from UCLA, whose
insight i agree on. He said that library 2.o needs to create a search page or engine
that ought to have customized options in a single space. this is cool.
other thoughts that we should make the library a user-eccentric kinda environment.
library should be a two way access. i also agreed to this.
the futures for the information age is done to stimulate the senses and not just the mind.
3D books, or simulations in games, other medias are present today. So i think the library
will be a more fun and stimulating environment in the future.
last thought, public libraries should incorporate databases from other sectors such as business, government, schools, and research facilities in their information databases. on this point, i think
the pub. lib is currently doing but it's just the beginning.
patrons also need to be aware of their privileges and not to abuse them.
overall, i read all the articles, i agreed with all their viewpoints.

week 6

I went to del.icio.us and explore.
Having listened to their ceo about tagging browsers' favorites
(bookmarkings). The difference is that with del.icio.us, we can
see who have similar interests and links to their blogs, feeds, or
websites.
del.icio.us let me install their browser buttons such as the settings and
'del.icio.us' button.
It's similar to the major search engines like mozilla, internet explorer, yahoo .. .
but del.icio.us is a sub-engine or add-ons ( in my opinion)
during the way i registered to wordpress.org.
unfortunately, the feed i need could not be shown.
on the way, i also bumped into the rss feed symbol for anyone
who needs to know.
the overall impression on del.icio.us
scale 1 to 10 i give it a 6.99
i wished the site have more graphics or visual elements to it.
It's a beginning linked to bookmarking our favorites topics though a third
party site and share info.
i guess the library users can be introduced to it.
it wasn't an exciting discovery, however, it's a learning experience
on what's out there on the web 2.0
by the way, i also got the link to teen zone
it's a forum-blog type of web site on
books, music, videos blog links that 'teens' put up there.
older people with a nostalgy for their teenage days can go here. . .

week 4 and 5
well, I subscribe to bloglines.com
and got some rss feeds.
about techs, weird news, cnn.com
i guess rss feeds save time by narrowing my selection of
online selections of topics that interest me.
talkin' bout topics on the net, I found topix.net
nasty suicide bombings yesterday in Iraq.
what I like about topix.net is its easy to see news' display
it's bold and plenty with lots of topics to choose from.
The topics range from news to downloading security software.
This site's cover page focus more on displaying its text rather than images.
I chosen dailymotion.com or utube.com and rollyo.com
dailymotion.com is the first place winner of the SEOmoz's Web 2.0 award
featuring all sorts of videos from anime to music and short films.
It's like Utube.com, we can post our funniest moments on the sites (I don't think porn moments
though).
Rollyo search engines is rated as the number one safe and trusted site by web 2.0 awards.
It does have a reference search that includes the britannica and can expands to the web.
I tried to search for the number one mental illness in the world but
it doesn't exactly return to give me the info. on which is the number one mental illnesses though.
it's a bit disappointing for me on that part.
Rollyo does let me personalize and narrows down searches however, maybe i need to do this
after the reference search.
i would use Rollyo for the general public or library patrons as a search engine. But for
college users, I prefer going to the infotrac databases itself.
i have created a search roll on anime downloads with Rollyo.com
wow! i just realized there are many useful things to learn these days. I've never thought of being able to create a 'search engine' via rollyo.com
but i don't know anybody else will take a look at my blog (of course, the virtual learning 2.0 team) thanks.

week 3: my wanted technology
week 2 continued
I used SnagIt to copy the dahlia and nintendo wii images
from Flickr and post it to asn26blog.
The hardest habit for my learning is probably
using technology to promote learning.
Easiest habit or tool for my lifelong learning is
to play. Having fun is something I don't need to learn that much. =)
